Totally recommended!
An hour and a bit of Johnny Depp perving, who could ask for more?!
He's still the best Captain Jack Sparrow ever!
I'm sure the storyline was interesting but for the life of me, I can't remember now... *wide grin*

Australia
Channel flipping on a Saturday night, found this on Star Movies. It was huge when it came out, a couple of years ago and I've been meaning to watch it, if only to perv on Hugh Jackman. He is such a hottie *drool*, even when he's not playing Wolverine. Speaking of which, that's going to be shown next!
Right, the movie. I'm in the middle of it at the moment and it's okay. Maybe because I only started watching it half an hour into the show. From what I can gather, the show's about two people, one an Australian cattle driver and another a lady, from the UK most probably, and the subplot how the aboriginals were treated badly. The scene, outback Australia in the 40s. I don't know much about the history of things, but apparently the Japanese attacked and there's always one mean-o, Fletcher (who's pretty ugly looking too!) who died too easily towards the end.
Did I like the show? I don't know. I probably won't be watching it over and over again, too little scenes with a clean cut Hugh Jackman and I'm still undecided as to whether I like Nicole Kidman as an actress.

Inception
The hubs and I finally went down to the cinema to watch Inception. The reservation over the internet was done on Saturday and we were supposed to watch it yesterday, but tickets were so hot at all the possible cinemas throughout the day that we decided to book it for tonight. So many good reviews for this show, if you haven't seen it, you've got to watch it, on the big screen. Not only for the cinematography but the story makes you think. Not disappointed at all!
The story revolves around the concept of dream manipulation. It's not technically explained in the show, you'll just have to think of it as possible and that it works. Imagine someone drugging you to sleep, plug a needle in your arm which is connected to a machine that injects a serum which makes you dream on an exclusively made up platform. The people who follow you into the dream will not impose their subconsciousness, else you'll retaliate and harass them. Are you still confused?
Anyways, the point is, it makes you think. The possibility of altering the world as you see it and in such a safe environment. Unlike the Matrix, if you die in the Matrix, you die and pain is relative. But in the dreamworld, if you die, you just wake up and pain is really, really painful.
And time, of course, is different in the dreamworld. It could be 10 seconds in real life, but you've lived 50 years in the forth or fifth layer of dreamworld.
I'm sure there will be a sequel to this as the ending leaves you hanging with a HUH?! And given the opportunity, I'd watch it again, sweet dreams!

Deep Blue Sea
I don't really know why, but this is one of my favourite movies.
Could it be because of Thomas Jane's muscular torso? Maybe...
Or the Orca-like killer sharks? Scarily fascinating creatures...
Anyways, the movie, if you haven't watched it, is about a group of scientists who might have found the cure for Alzheimer's by breeding their own sharks and harvesting their brain juice. Of course, the bigger the shark, the more brain juice. Ah... but the bigger the brain, the more intelligent the shark gets.
Favourite scenes:
Thomas Jane swimming with a harmless shark trying to get the license plate unstuck
Stellan Skarsgard's hand getting ripped off
Samuel L Jackson gets eaten alive... without any warning
Blood and gore... that's what I like. I wonder if there's an uncensored version.

B grade movies
Lazy weekend again. Spent nearly every minute at home, sleeping *grin* Ah... it's great to be able to do that. But as a consequence, I'm still wide awake at this time of night.
Tired of surfing the net, no real topic to search for at the moment, I turned on the telly and decided to pick the channel with the least amount of advertisement breaks, Star Movies. There's truly nothing entertaining to watch in the middle of the night. I wonder why they don't put on good movies after midnight. Maybe we should really switch to digital telly, having the choice of watching what we want, when we want, would be great.
Wyvern : The story was about a lizard-like flying animal, something akin to a dragon, without the smoke puffing thing. It has decided to kill the residents of a remote village, and keep their bodies as nourishment for its three eggs when they hatch. A stranger comes back to town after a long hiatus and saves the day. Very unbelievable. The whole story was rushed through. I think the producers over-cut the film. I was expecting another creature to appear after the first one was killed, but none came. How did the eggs get fertilised? How come it was so easy for the wyvern to get killed? Yeah, it stuck its head inside the semi-trailer just before the road ended, plunging to its death.
Lava Storm : An earlier version of one of my favourite movie, Volcano. No volcanic eruption, but lava starts to come through from under a water basin and ruin everything in its path. I didn't stay up to watch the end, because the storyline was rushed through and very unbelievable. I already knew what's going to happen in the end. Everyone lives. Maybe it's the fault of the actors, or the casting. Ian Zerring was one of the lead actors. I remember him from 90210, the original series. He was playing a teenager then, I guess it's been enough years between then and now that he can be cast to play the father of two teenage kids.
There's a reason they are called B grade movies and the actors, B grade actors.

Inglourious Basterds
The hubs and I finally watched this on the DVD. Got to admit that I didn't find it all too entertaining. Sure it had some gore, the scalping thing was pretty gory, but the machine gun scenes were too quick. Couldn't see who got shot where until everyone was down... in 2 seconds.
We watched it during dinner (which is not something you'd want to do with the scalping...) and had time during the movie to read the newspaper while most of the conversation was going on in German (I would've fallen asleep if we watched it in the cinema). I guess it's more of a non-action movie. Something that Mr Tarantino is not used to producing. I still love his Kill Bill series.
Good bits were the accents by Brad Pitt and Diane Kruger; German, French, English, American and Italian.

14 Blades
I have to hand it to Daniel Lee. His action movies are just awesome! Well, I think he's only done Three Kingdoms : Resurrection of the Dragon and 14 Blades, but if he's going to direct more, be sure to catch them! Maybe like wine, directors get better with age too!
I originally liked the way Zhang Yimou directed his movies. Although he's got more than 10 movies under his belt, I've only watched Hero and House of Flying Daggers. If you haven't watched either, you've GOT to watch them.
Anyways, 14 Blades. What did I like about it?
Fight sequences were awesome. Not a lot of gore, arterial spray and the hero doesn't really get injured... only when he met his match in the Femme Fatale that Tuo Tuo was. Her character was great! The evil eyes... the moving faster than her clothes can. All very good CGI. The ultimate was the 14th Blade. Upon release, it separates into 4 different blades and if your body is in the way of its projectile, you're definitely getting seriously mortally injured.
What didn't I like about it?
Nothing that I can think of at the moment. It wasn't draggy or long, the pace was just right, the fight sequences filled the voids and got the story moving.
I would buy the DVD, just to catch the movie without having to read the subtitles at the same time. I can't for the life of me understand Mandarin.

Transporter 3
The first one was okay... the second one... can't really remember much... just watched the third installment and it was highly unbelievable. Not a scratch on Jason Statham, he fought with 9 guys, bare knuckled at first, then with whatever instruments that were available in the workshop. Even had a one-on-one with someone who looked twice his size and a couple of feet taller than him, flew through a wall. Not a scratch. Bullets flying everywhere towards the end, not a scratch, or a nick. But what a bod! Yummy, yum, yum, yummm *grin*
Believable chase sequences with the bulletproof car, but towards the end, it was submerged in water... after a couple of tinkles, it was still drivable, like brand new. Audi makes good cars.
Another gripe is that I couldn't understand half the words Natalya Rudakova was saying. Her Russian accent was too strong! But I loved her blue, blue eyes.

Avatar 3D
The hubs and I finally went to watch Avatar in 3D. Most of the other weeks since it opened, the seatings were either the first or second row away from the screen. I vowed never to watch a movie that close again, even if it was only showing for one day. If you dig hard enough, you should be able to find a record of it on the internet.
Anyways, the movie was alright. I was wowed for the first half hour or so and then I kept wondering when it was going to end. A slightly long story at 2.5 hours, it was kind of draggy in the middle. But the storyline got me thinking about people who immerse themselves in online games like 2nd life and World of Warcraft. What they would give to be able to have that life instead of the one they're living, and that's pretty understandable. I mean, Avatar's hero is a paraplegic in real life. He goes over as an alien who has full use of all his limbs and all his other senses are acute. He meets the daughter of the chief clan (which is like meeting the princess, high chance of him experiencing the better part of the alien life) and learns the ways of the aliens. Gets to fly on a pterodactyl creature and finally mates with the princess. Oh, what a wonderful life. And at some point in time, he wants his alien life to be his real life. Who wouldn't.
Meanwhile, the show would have ended differently if he were made a servant, to work the fields, not fed enough, tortured on a nightly basis, blah, blah, blah...
If I had to do it again, would I have paid the $13 for it? I am still undecided.

Twilight
Last month, while on vacation, I managed to catch the final 20 minutes of the movie, Twilight. Sad to say, it didn't really appeal to me as I had no inkling of the story never having read any of the novels. A week later, it was showing on cable again and this time I caught another 30 minutes of it (10 minutes into the movie) before having to leave for a dinner appointment.
Frustrated, disconcerted and a little piqued, I went to look for the novel. The phenomenon started sometime in 2008 if I remember correctly, and it didn't appeal to me then as I wasn't into written vampire fiction (the Anne Rice books were okay) although friends kept telling me that it wasn't the main theme... romance, a love so deep, blah, blah, blah. After a few hops into the various bookstores, I finally found a copy of the first book, Twilight. Something about where it was being filed in bookstores should have hinted to me the kind of language the book was written in (it was kept in the young adults section) but no, no alarm bells went off. Suffice to say, after half a day of reading, it's not a book I can re-read. Maybe I'll keep it in the bathroom instead of counting tiles.
